The TerraVie Community Land Trust is a non-profit
organization that acquires, protects and manages lands in
Quebec making them available to viable communities (25 %)
from generation to generation. TerraVie received the Quebec
Government's "Phoenix of the Environment" award in 2007 as
the "best project in the field of sustainable development."
Our first natural heritage conservation project was launched
in Montcalm in the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal.
More than 188 acres of forested land recognized as a natural
reserve is now protected and an ecovillage is in development
on adjoining land.
The innovative combination of an ecovillage and a
conservation area has great potential in education and
social transformation. In addition to acting as guardians,
residents of the ecovillage will adopt an ecological charter
and share their knowledge with visitors.
A housing cooperative, HabitaVie, was created to develop the
residential component of the ecovillage. Currently, some
Right of Superficies contracts are available at a cost of $6 000.
